Between December 4-8, at the 16th National Medical Genetic Congress organized by the Turkish Society of Medical Genetic, our CEO Ahmet Eren SAYIN and Medical Director Hakan Berkil, Laboratory Director Hüseyin Avni Taç and Mesut Yeşil represented our center with their scientific contributions.
The congress, attended by nearly 700 esteemed academics, industry representatives, Ministry of Health Officials, and TUSEB representatives from all over Turkey and abroad, became an important platform for sharing the latest developments, information, and data in the field of genetics.
Dr. Hakan Berkil, MD, gave an oral presentation in the session titled "Development of a PGT Algorithm Based on the Pathogenicity of Variants in Multiple Single Gene Carriers and Determination of Options for Embryo Transfer". In this presentation, he provided valuable insights on the importance of tests like Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) in detecting multiple single gene carrier statuses, as well as the significance of genetic counseling and the development of the PGT-M algorithm for these patients.
Our Laboratory Director Dr. Hüseyin Avni Taç, who also spoke at this scientific meeting, gave a presentation titled “The Importance of WES in Carrier Testing in Couples and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGT-M) Applications for Multiple Diseases with a Single Biopsy”. In this presentation, he discussed how the high rate of consanguinity in couples in Turkey increases the incidence of genetic diseases and emphasized the importance of carrier testing along with preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGT-M) for single gene diseases to reduce this risk.
